Shenzhen International 3D Street Design Scheme – Huaqiang Bei Road

Year : 2009

Client: Shenzhen Municipal Planning Bureau

Location: Shenzhen, China

Site Area: 45 ha

The Huaqiang Bei District and Huaqiang Bei Road experience the highest occupant density and some of the most congested traffic in Shenzhen. Our design concept was developed to strengthen the existing electronics and fashion businesses along Huaqiang Bei Road, to capitalise on the high pedestrian flow, and introduce fine dining and entertainment opportunities to the area. We proposed key attractions and landscape features throughout, including specific streetscape elements catering for the four activity quadrants we identified along the Central Spine (HuaQiang Bei Road): Hi-Tech Quadrant, Fashion Quadrant, Lifestyle Quadrant and Multi-Media Quadrant.

By designing a transformative Central Spine that provides several nodal developments, improves the streetscape along HuaQiang Bei Road and incorporates a series of multimedia and lifestyle opportunities within the four quadrants, our plan has set the area to become a major electronics and entertainment district in Shenzhen. We introduced an additional network of open spaces and plazas using a double helix secondary pedestrian spine to open up a new pedestrian experience at grade for more economic opportunities and better social interaction to improve the quality of life of the people of Shenzhen
