APCRDA appointed UDP International as the lead consultant for the preparation of the Urban Design and Architectural Guidelines (UDAG) for Amaravati Capital City. The guidelines are developed using a collaborative approach with a focus on People, Place and Planet. UDAG cover the built environment including residential, commercial, mixed use and community uses well integrated with existing villages, streetscape and open spaces while promoting the local heritage, art and culture. Amaravati is planned to have an extensive blue and green network with canals and lakes as well as an attractive and accessible riverfront to offer a high quality of life for its residents and visitors. The guidelines also showcase sustainable mobility and infrastructure prioritizing Transit and Pedestrian Oriented Development (TPOD) with large-scale mixed-use developments and Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) to ensure last mile connectivity throughout the Capital City.
The UDAG include City Level Strategies, Waterfront and Open Space, Streetscape, TPOD, Village Integration, Architectural Guidelines with an emphasis on green building, smart and sustainable development for health, happiness and well-being of the people. Amaravati is envisioned as a city for the people with smart planning, sensitive urban design, architectural and landscape design while celebrating the River Krishna as the heart and soul of Amaravati. The UDAG will not only help guide the future development of the Capital City but also will be useful to guide for other cities in India and beyond. The Guidelines are developed based on the following principles.
