The Kai Tak Sports Park is a landmark project as part of the new Kai Tak Development. It aims to provide sports facilities and open space for the general public; operate sports facilities for training and competition for elite athletes; and provide venues that can host major international sports events.
UDP International successfully secured planning approval for the large multi-purpose sports complex comprising major sports facilities and administrative uses including a Main Stadium, Public Sports Ground, Indoor Sports Centre, Hotel and Office Development, as well as eating place uses. Planning and Design services provided include: S16 Planning Application, relaxation of building height, Visual Impact Assessment, Hotel and Stadium Viability Study, as well as landscape and Urban Design Study. Mitigation measures were proposed to further enhance the visual compatibility of the proposed Kai Tak Sports Park development with the surroundings.
The Landscape and Urban Design Study was conducted to ensure the Sports Park is well integrated with its surrounding areas and benefits from good connectivity. The design provides a versatile character to the site where it can be developed as a major open space for locals and visitors. A network of multi-level open spaces is created for both active and passive use, including parks and plazas spaces with hard and soft landscape surfaces. A place making design strategy was implemented to weave together well designed spatial configuration at multiple levels with surrounding areas in the vicinity. The overall design collectively contributes to the intent of developing the site to promote an active and healthy lifestyle while ensuring a high quality of life for Hong Kong people.
